Yogyakarta, the capital of Yogyakarta Special Region, is a known tourist destination in Indonesia due to its proximity to the prominent temples Borobudur and Prambanan, the two major tourist attractions in central Java.

Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist temple. It was built in the 9th century and is still used as pilgrimage site. Prambanan, which was also built in the 9th century, is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
